Purpose
The idea behind this course is to give you an introduction to personal finance to get your money right before jumping into sexier topics like investing in stocks or crypto. I truly believe that without a solid foundation in personal finance, all your plans with investing are at risk of failure.
One of my favorite quotes is “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” – Peter Drucker.
I think this applies to personal finance as certain key building blocks allow you to measure how well you are managing your money.
For instance, if I asked, “what percentage of your after-tax income goes into investments?” Would you be able to give an answer or pull up the figure easily?
Each person’s financial goals and circumstances are different, that’s why it’s called personal finance. I’m hoping I can pass on my knowledge and experience to jump-start your journey towards crushing your money goals.
This course is geared toward those that are getting started in the real world after college or anyone working a full-time job (employee-focused) and who wants to get better with finances in general. You’ll learn about budgeting, debt management, renting vs. buying, large asset purchases (cars and homes), financial goal setting, and retirement planning.
If there is a section you feel you already have mastered, feel free to skip around to subjects you want a better understanding of.
This course will be influenced by my own experiences, so remember it is alright not to always agree with what I did, and feel free to tweak certain strategies to match your objectives!
Am I perfect in every way when it comes to personal finance? No, but anyone saying they are is probably lying. There is always the plan vs. obstacles that pop up or a change in circumstances.
Another great quote is “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” – Mike Tyson
The point is to be able to weigh the options and make the best choice at that time for your long-term goals.
Let’s get into it!
